Course Aim

To equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the data centre commissioning lifecycle from design review through to handover, enabling them to operate effectively as a contributing member of a commissioning team and to uphold the quality and safety standards required on a live data centre project.

Course Objectives

Participants will gain an understanding of modern data centre systems, Uptime Institute Tier classifications, and the full commissioning lifecycle from L0 to L6. The course covers commissioning team roles, key documentation including IRLs, Cx Plans, ITPs, DCRs, and WCRs, the five-colour tagging system, and the interpretation of commissioning test scripts. Participants will also explore major electrical and mechanical systems while applying commissioning quality, safety, PTW awareness, and documentation standards.

Learning Outcomes

1. Explain the full data centre commissioning lifecycle and the purpose of each level L0 to L6.

2. Identify and describe the role of every party in the commissioning team, including CXA, GC, EC, MC and Owner.

3. Navigate and use CxAlloy to locate assets, read checklists and understand the document management workflow.

4. Describe the five-colour commissioning tag system and correctly apply the golden rule: no preceding tag, no next level.

5. Read a commissioning test script, identify mandatory elements, and complete a checklist step correctly.

6. Identify major electrical systems (MV/LV switchgear, UPS, ATS, generators, EPMS) and their commissioning requirements.

7. Identify major mechanical systems (CRAH, chillers, CHW, BMS) and explain their role in a live data centre.

8. Recognise commissioning quality failures and explain the correct response including IRL raise and escalation.

9. Complete a full guided L2 QA/QC inspection and L3 SAT on the training rig and apply Yellow and Green Tags.
